MY JOURNEY

In Search Of A
Living Liver Donation

In August of 2024 I was diagnosed with End Stage Liver Disease, thus meaning my only chance for survival and to be there for my loved ones in a manner they are so deserving of, and my brother and sister first responders is to receive a Liver Transplant as advised by my
team of excellent Doctors at Yale New Haven Health.

Unfortunately, my health has declined and the everyday tasks we all do without
thinking about have become more and more difficult. This is the hardest thing I
have ever faced because as a first responder you are used to trying to protect
others and help them through some of the most tragic incidents in their lives, but
we don’t tend to do very well with addressing our own needs and are not the best at asking others for help.
So, for me, this is by far the most difficult thing I have ever had to do.
While my blood type is very good at helping other blood types, there is a much smaller percentage of blood types I can receive, making my chances of receiving a liver from a deceased donor extremely unlikely anytime soon. A living donor is by far my best chance of survival and what I am hopeful for so that I may be able to be here for my tremendous family and brother and sister first responders for years to come. So even though it literally pains me to ask, if you or someone you may know has ever thought about truly saving a life or would just like to learn more about Living Liver Donation, please share this with as many people as possible as you see fit. You could potentially help any one of several different people today.
